CMRA

Winchester, Tennessee Private

CMRA is a members-only dirt bike club on Cumberland Mountain near Winchester, Tennessee, with about 80 miles of one-way marked trail and dirt road.

CMRA, the Cumberland Mountain Riders Association, runs a private, motorcycle-only riding area on top of Cumberland Mountain in southern Middle Tennessee. The club describes more than 80 miles of one-way marked trail and dirt roads winding through hardwood and laurel forest, with overlooks toward neighboring ridges and valleys. Most of the riding is singletrack, and the club says it has something for every skill level, from beginners to seasoned riders. A 2016 rider report describes three main loops of roughly 30 miles each, with the first two fast and flowing and the third the hardest, plus unmarked trails beyond the marked system. Treat those loop details as rider hearsay rather than club-published numbers.

This is a club, not a public park. Access is through CMRA membership, and the club's site does not describe walk-up or day-use riding. Rider reports mention day passes at some point, so ask the club before you plan a trip around one.

Getting there

The club lists its location as Belvidere, Tennessee, in Franklin County, and Winchester is the nearest sizable town. From Interstate 24, take Exit 127 onto Highway 64 West, go about 17 miles, and turn left onto Highway 16 South. After about 7 miles you pass Circle E Guest Ranch on the right. Keep going another 4 to 5 miles and the entrance is on the right. A rider in 2016 called the entrance poorly marked, so watch for it. The map pin here is a point mapped in OpenStreetMap for the club, not one the club publishes.

Fees, permits, and rules

Membership is by application. The club's mailing address is CMRA, P.O. Box 1771, Tullahoma, TN 37388-1771, and its site has a How to Join page with forms. The membership year runs May to May, and April is the main sign-up and renewal window. The club site does not list dues. Only dirt bikes are allowed, so no ATVs or side-by-sides. Trails are one-way, so follow the marked direction.

When to ride

Trails are closed for Tennessee deer season (September to January) and turkey season (March to May) each year. Riding is open the rest of the year, seven days a week for members, and the club's site listed a reopening date of January 4, 2027. Camping on the property is limited and hiking and mountain biking share the property, so expect other members on the trails.
